for Kane (8.00 / 4)
Must admit I didn't listen to this--the earworm potential scared the hell out of me.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

nostalgia sucks (0.00 / 0)
This makes my skin crawl. I made it to 36 seconds before I hit the pause button.

When our parents were in their late fifties, did they almost through up in their mouths when they looked back four decades to their teenage years?

[ Parent ]
lol (0.00 / 0)
I totally agree--this is the stuff that makes my skin crawl.  Don't know if it's bad music, bad memories, or both, but there's no way I was going to suffer through listening to that just for the pleasure of torturing Kane.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

I pity you (0.75 / 4)
If you look back 4 decades and want to vomit based on how you were then I can imagine the lack of esteem you live with now.

how old are you? (9.00 / 2)
Do you never look back? Do you feel totally satisfied with everything you ever did or said?

It's okay to look back and find fault with oneself, to see room for improvement. Case in point: Perhaps two years ago I posted a gratuitously nasty diary in response to a comment you made. It was a gross (in every sense of the word) over reaction. I sincerely ask your forgiveness for that.

Besides, you missed the point of my comment. It's the incredible tackiness of that video and so much of that era that makes me queasy. I'm thinking about my fringed moccasins, my wide wale corduroy pants, my shirt with the Tom Jones fly-away collar. Tacky. Ugly. Silly. Dated.

I was an adolescent, I was off the wall, doing crazy stuff that, from age 57, looks rude or stupid or worse. I'm quite pleased with the person I've become over the last 40 years, thank you very much.

[ Parent ]
There is a back story (10.33 / 3)
behind my comment. A few weeks ago, my brother drove a friends car back home from a distant city. The only CD in the car was the Carpenters greatest hits. Now my brother wasn't ever much of a music guy. He was too busy doing other things. I was the twin that went to all the concerts and had all the 8 tracks and vinyl. But neither of us were ever Carpenter fans. But he was shocked, he told me, after his 5 1/2 hour drive listening to the CD, that he knew almost every song. Even knew the words to most of them. I took a look at the CD and I did too. Too much listening to AM radio maybe.

Here's where I was gonna add a Carpenters video. But it was just too soul-less. So here's one of the songs they borrowed and turned into wonderbread. But in the original version.

[ Parent ]
What makes the Carpenters exceptionally creepy (3.80 / 5)
is that you just know they were banging each other.  You just know it.  You might not have known that the Village People were gay, but you knew Karen and Richard were sharing a bed.  And probably reading Scripture to each other after working up a sweat.

You never fail to make me laugh.  Hope the studying is going well.  When's the Bar Exam?

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

[ Parent ]
Feb 28 to March 1 (7.00 / 1)
And I'm totally in the weeds.  Today's assignment was a 7-hour, 200-question multiple choice practice test.  Ummm, I work for a fucking living!  I managed to do 15 questions during my half-hour lunch, and another 90 questions after I got home this evening and ate dinner. Now my eyes feel like they are encrusted with ash, and I've been exhausted all week, so I'll do the rest over the next day or so. Which means I'll be behind.

What really chaps my ass about these multiple choice questions is, either the test administrators are trying to trick me with their answers, or they are trying to trick me into thinking they are trying to trick me with their answers.  Yeah, it's that kind of bullshit.

Meanwhile, my boss's poor geriatric dog peed on the showroom floor today, right in front of all of us, and later crapped on the showroom floor.  And her ex-husband, who I guess has a say in the matter but doesn't take the dog to HIS office every day, or even take him over the weekends, says he isn't ready yet to let the dog go.  And when I got home tonight, one of my cats barfed on one of my bar review outline books.  Luckily, minimal damage, but the book may smell like cat barf.

Oh, and on my way home tonight, I get on the bus (the one that goes through the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, 'nuff said), and several women nearby have their scarfs pulled up over their noses, like something must smell bad.  They were like that when I got on, but I'm self-conscious. So I make eye-contact with one of them (the cute one, 'nuff said), and point at myself, mouthing "is it me??" She laughs and says, no, it's the drunk guy sitting down about a yard away from me.  Whew.

Finally, the Asian woman that works for the art consultants is exquisite.

In loving memory: Sophie, June 1, 1993-January 17, 2005. My huckleberry friend.

[ Parent ]
I'll be rooting for you (0.00 / 0)
I remember how hard it was, and the course I took (I had been out of school a couple of years and was taking the Bar in a different state) sequestered us in a hotel for a week prior to the test for intensive prep.

Hang in there--just a little over four more weeks.  You can do it!

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

[ Parent ]
some comic relief, perhaps (9.67 / 3)
the test administrators are trying to trick me with their answers, or they are trying to trick me into thinking they are trying to trick me with their answers.
Made me think of the "Battle of Wits" scene from The Princess Bride.

PS: This clip won't allow embedding, but it's the shortest and best quality of the several versions available of this scene. Skip the ad.

[ Parent ]
I love that movie (8.00 / 1)
One of my all-time favorites.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

[ Parent ]
same here (9.50 / 2)
I've watched that movie more times than any other. For the last 15 years, one of our cars has carried the license plate TWUWUV in honor of the bishop's speech ("Wuv, twu wuv, is why we are gavered here today..."). Once, my wife found a note under the windshield wiper with this message: "Have fun storming the castle!"

[ Parent ]
man (9.00 / 1)
that sounds like some of the exam questions I just had in some of my college computer courses.

You know you're really in trouble when they start out with "Which of the following is not ....", you read through the answers, and two of them seem just about the same. Trick question. You just know it.

The Professor says, "Oh, that's not really a trick question." Yeah, right!

Sometimes I read a question and think, I really don't remember that in the book.

Well, good luck! I hope you do well.
